Teen Therapy

  • Being a teenager right now is not easy.

Between school pressure, social media, friendships, family expectations, and trying to figure out who they are, many teens feel overwhelmed but don’t always know how to talk about it.

Sometimes it shows up as anxiety, irritability, shutting down, or changes in eating or sleep. Other times parents just notice that something feels different but can’t quite put their finger on it.

Therapy gives teens a space where they can slow down, talk openly, and begin to understand what they are feeling without judgment.

My goal is to create a space where teens feel comfortable enough to be honest about what is really going on.

  • Sessions are relaxed and conversational.

Many teens come in unsure about therapy at first. That’s completely normal. We move at a pace that feels comfortable and focus on building trust before diving into deeper work.

Some sessions involve talking through what is happening in their life. Other times we focus on learning practical tools for managing stress, anxiety, or overwhelming emotions.

Parents are an important part of the process as well. I keep parents informed when helpful while also protecting the teen’s need for a safe and private space.

  • Anxiety and overthinking

    School stress and burnout

    Social struggles or friendship issues

    Low self confidence

    Identity exploration

    Family conflict

    Eating and body image concerns

    Feeling overwhelmed or emotionally stuck

Many teens also struggle with putting pressure on themselves to keep everything together. Therapy can help them learn how to manage that pressure in healthier ways.

  • I believe therapy works best when teens feel like they are talking to a real person, not being analyzed.

My style is warm, collaborative, and down to earth. I draw from approaches such as somatic therapy, mindfulness, and parts work to help teens better understand their emotions and how their nervous system responds to stress.

Working with teens has been a focus of mine since the beginning of my career as a therapist. I have always felt drawn to this stage of life because it can be such an important and formative time.

As someone who struggled with undiagnosed anxiety during my own high school years, I understand how confusing and isolating that experience can feel. That personal perspective has shaped the way I approach therapy with teens today. I aim to create a space where they feel safe being honest about what they are going through and supported as they learn new ways to manage stress, emotions, and relationships.

At the center of my work is building a genuine connection so teens feel respected, understood, and supported.

  • Many teens come to therapy because something just feels off. Sometimes they can name what they’re struggling with, and other times they simply feel overwhelmed or stuck.

Some of the things I commonly help teens navigate include:

    Anxiety and constant overthinking

    School stress and academic pressure

    Friendship struggles or social anxiety

Low self confidence or negative self talk

Eating concerns and body image struggles

    Feeling emotionally overwhelmed

    Family conflict or communication challenges

    Difficulty managing stress or expectations

Not every teen who comes to therapy has a clear diagnosis. Often they just need a place where they can talk openly, understand their emotions, and learn healthier ways to cope with stress

  • If you are considering therapy for your teen, you are not alone.

Many parents reach out because they notice their teen struggling but feel unsure how to help without pushing them away.

Therapy can offer teens a space to talk about things they might not feel comfortable discussing at home while also giving them tools to handle stress, emotions, and relationships more confidently.

When helpful, I collaborate with parents to support the teen both in and outside of therapy.

  • I work with teens ages 12 to 18 in my Suwanee office and through virtual sessions for families in Johns Creek and the surrounding North Atlanta area.
